The F Word (2013) review
I usually don’t do movie reviews… mostly because I don’t consider myself an expert on the topic.
And this isn’t a true movie review, but I just have to share some thoughts after seeing “The F Word” during the advanced screening Monday.
It’s charming and entertaining. It dives into modern romance, but is also a genuine comedy.
Here’s a quick rundown of the three reasons why you should see it…
1) Relatable Topic – “Can a man and woman be platonic friends?” is one of those questions everyone deals with. This movie explores the boundaries between friends and lovers and doesn’t hide behind the fact that there is a “grey” area being flirted with. Cliché? A bit… but this is a fresh spin on the topic that you definitely haven’t seen before.
2) Humour – If the topic doesn’t appeal to you, the humour will. It’s quick and witty, great for both men and women in the audience. The writing is intelligent, and of course, delivered flawlessly by an attractive cast of Daniel Radcliffe, Zoe Kazan, Adam Driver, and many others. Sprinkle in some carefully placed physical comedy, and it’ll have you laughing out loud in the theatre.
3) Location – It’s a bonus this movie was filmed in Toronto. There’s something extra special about watching a movie filmed in a city you’re familiar with. And to top it off, the producers don’t hide the fact it’s filmed in Toronto, they embrace it. It makes all Canadians feel a little pride.
“The F Word” is not your mother’s rom-com… it’s unconventional, modern and smart. I recommend it as the perfect date night movie
